A photo album kept by a couple traveling to Alaska in the 1940s. The trip begins in the Badlands of South Dakota with photos of the landscape and travels. They visited Rapid City, South Dakota and photographed Dinosaur Park and later Deadwood and included images of the town and saloons. Following this they went to Billings, Montana where they watched the rodeo parade through town and later the rodeo itself. After Montana they headed to Seattle where they boarded the S.S. Alaska where they took the Inside Passage route to Alaska. They stopped at Ketchikan and photographed totem poles, gold mines, and fisherman unloaded halibut. After this they made their way to Juneau where they visited Auke Lake and the Mendenhall Glacier. Other sites include Mt. McKinley Park, Paxson Lake, and Seward, Alaska. In Kotzebue they photographed "Eskimos" seen here in traditional dress with their families. The end of the album includes color photographs this time they flew using Alaska airlines. These photos show color images of the "Midnight sun taken from plane north of Arctic circle." Other images show the travelers with native Alaskans, who it appears they befriended on their trip as one photo shows a woman holding a small child. They continued on to Canada and photographed Jasper National Park , Lake Louise, and Glacier National Park, among other sites.
An interesting collection of travel photographs detailing trips to Alaska which features stops in South Dakota and Montana.
