The front cover has a very minor stain to the fore-edge, there is a previous owner's name along the top edge of the front free endpaper, and there is a brief contemporary gift inscription on the title page. The text is in German. Einzig berechtigte Übertragung von Paul Amann. Masereel's woodcut series, which were mainly of sociocritical content and of expressionistic formal concept, brought Masereel international acknowledgment.
