First edition of Tarkington's most famous book, a classic of boyhood. Inscribed on the front free endpaper to the publisher, "Gladly inscribed for Russell Doubleday by Booth Tarkington. April 9th 1914, Indianapolis." Russell Doubleday (1872-1949) was the brother of Frank Nelson Doubleday and served variously as advertising manager, vice-president, secretary and a director of the Doubleday publishing firm.
