"The daughter of a lieutenant in the Royal Navy in charge of the coastguard station, she was educated at home and wrote novels from 1862. Her early books were considered shocking in their account of the sexual feelings of girls" (Edwardian Fiction... p. 86). Printed in two columns, with some foxing throughout. A previous owner's name is written on the title page. Bound in Half Leather over brown paper boards, with titling stamped in gilt on a label, and printers flowers stamped in compartments between raised bands. White and brown marbled endpapers.
