Japan, Hawaii, 1914. Hardcover. Near Fine. Oblong quarto measuring 11¼" x 8". String-tied buckram. Contains 64 black and white gelatin silver photographs, 29 are hand colored, measuring 4" x 3¼" with captions. Some loose pages, worn edges, and short tears thus very good with near fine photographs.

A wonderful album documenting a family trip in the summer of 1914. On their way to boarding a ship on the West Coast, they stopped at the Grand Canyon as well as Burlingame and Redwoods in California, with a few shots of each. Following this was Hawaii with several shots in Honolulu including a dock with signage and Waikiki Beach. Stops in Japan included Yokohama, Kamakura, Nikko and Tokyo. There are several outstanding street scenes, shots of sailboats on the water, workers and street vendors, rickshaw drivers and more. Additionally, 29 images are exquisitely hand colored and several photos' versos contain detailed notes by the photographer related to camera settings, lighting, and how to color the image.

A lovely travel album from an amateur photographer with hand colored elements.
