By WELLS, Thomas Bucklin (1875 - 1944)
New York, 1921. unbound. very good(+). Humorous T.L.S. 8vo. 2 pages, Harpers & Brothers, New York City, November 21st, 1921, taking exception to a nit-pickers letter, in part: "...Every man according to his taste--as far as short stories are concerned. But when you come down to the question of the color of poppies, I must confess that I am unable to cope with you and must refer your letter to the author of the story, to which you object. He is a careful person and I do not think he would have written as he did without some good authority. But in any event, what difference does it make what color the poppies were? I could point out to you at least a thousand worse mistakes than this in the works of William Shakespeare. And to come down to modern times, I might cite innumerable errors and anachronisms in the last novel by Edith Wharton "The Age of Innocence". But these things do not affect the literary value of the works of a writer. So don%u2019t scold us too much and don%u2019t be too sure about the blue poppy. I shall ask the author to send you one if he can find it..." Usual folds, otherwise in very good (+) condition.

American editor and Chairman of the Board of Harpers Magazine. He retired in 1931 to Paris France where he was killed on August 2nd, 1944 during the Nazi occupation.
