A handsome copy of the 1891 1st edition of this ribald, cautionary guide to marriage, both written and wonderfully illustrated thruout in rich chromolithography by H.M. Vickar. Tight, solid and VG+ in its vellum-backed decorative cloth, with bright gilt-titling to the front panel. Very light soiling to the panels, just a touch of mild offsetting at the front inner hinge. The plates are uniformly crisp and near-pristine or better. Quarto, separated into 2 halves ("Advice to the Man"/"Advice to the Woman"). The Introductory verse: "I should advise a man to pause/Before he takes a wife/In fact, I see no earthly cause/He should not pause for life.
