Sheboygan, Wisconsin, 1880. Hardcover. Very Good. Oblong small quarto measuring 7" x 6". Green cloth over stiff paper boards with "photographs" stamped in silver on the front board. Contains 134 sepia-toned Kodak photographs all measuring 1.5" x 2" without captions. Very good album with rubbing, worn edges, and toning with very good photographs with some fading.

A photo album kept by an amateur photographer in Sheboygan in the late 1880s. The album contains small format Kodak photographs housed in a Kodak pocket album. This era of Kodak saw the rise in snapshot photography and the popularity of honing amateur photography skills. The photographer captures images of turn-of-the-century Sheboygan throughout the album featuring upper middle class people, views of the river, and various landmarks. One image shows the Civil War monument, another shows an early gas company in town. In a more artistic serious of images the compiler photographs people through their windows catching people at home reading the newspaper and playing chess. A parade in the center of the city is also seen later in the album. The photographer also features photographs of various modes of transportation including horse drawn carriages and bicycles. One interesting set of images shows a group of young boys on a five person bicycle.

A nice collection of early Kodak snapshots with views of Sheboygan in the late 1800s.
