[Republic of Texas, San Felipe Election Record, February 6, 1837]. Four-page handwritten record of the election at San Felipe, listing all candidates, vote totals, and offices won. John York (Indian fighter and soldier) elected Sheriff; Benjamin Thomas as President of the Board of Managers; results sent to Hon. Thomas Barnet, newly appointed Chief Justice of Austin County by Sam Houston (Dec. 20, 1836). Includes list of 25 electors, signed by W. P. Hill, Secretary. Conducted during the town’s rebuilding after being burned to prevent Mexican occupation; later made county seat (Nov. 18, 1837). All principal figures noted in Handbook of Texas.with a couple of closed tears to folds, preserved in mylar.
