Hanau: Verlag Karl Schustek, 1968. First edition. Hardcover. Near fine/good +. 104pp. Small quarto [26 cm] Natural beige cloth over boards with a black ink stamped design by Masereel on the front cover. German text. In a dust jacket, with a bit of toning to the spine and front panel, and several pieces of tape backing discreet tears in the edges. Despite these flaws, the jacket is still quite attractive. Masereel's woodcut series, which were mainly of sociocritical content and of expressionistic formal concept, brought Masereel international acknowledgment. Among them were his so-called image novels including 'Passion eines Menschen,' 'Mein Stundenbuch,' 'Die Sonne,' 'Die Idee,' and 'Geschichte ohne Worte,' which all date from the 1920s. During this same time Masereel also drew illustrations for famous works of world literature by Thomas Mann, Emile Zola and Stefan Zweig.
