Bowyer, 7th Baronet and 3rd Baronet, was a barrister and Liberal politician. His study of English constitutional law was first published in 1841. Oxford University granted him an honorary Doctor of Civil Laws for this work in 1844. Sharswood [1810-1883], a Pennsylvania jurist, was chief justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania from 1883 to 1887.
