By Funke, Lewis
Chicago/Westport: The Dramatic Publishing Company. Very Good+. (c.1975). First Edition. Softcover. [minor edgewear to covers, and an unfortunately unremovable scuff mark on the front cover]. Trade PB (pen-and-ink portraits) "Twelve innovative and especially successful playwrights discuss their writing, work habits, training, and attitudes with Lewis Funke, for many years Drama Editor of the New York Times." The subjects are: Jean Kerr, Edward Albee, Neil Simon, William Gibson, Douglas Turner Ward, Arthur Miller, Robert Anderson, Howard Sackler, Tom Stoppard, John Osborne, Lillian Hellman, and Brian Friel. Each interview is prefaced by a one-page biography of the subject, a description of the setting for the interview, and a full-page pen-and-ink portrait of the playwright. (These portraits are by an uncredited illustrator, and the publishers added a little insult to that injury by reproducing each of them in miniature on the book's covers.) .
