Preceded by the First English Edition and First French Edition, which were both published in three volumes a year prior. This First US Edition is complete in two volumes. Publisher's advertising leaf present at the end of Vol. II, and Vol. II dated 1827 on the title page, as called for by the BAL. Scattered foxing. Partially lacking the front endpaper of Vol. I, with tape staining and a tear to the remnants; also lacking the rear endpaper of Vol. I, though the blank leaf at the rear is present. Boards of Vol. II discretely reattached by a conservator, using Japanese tissue. Half leather with gilt lettering, over marbled paper boards. (BAL 3839. Wright 703). Very Good binding.
