The chap book tells the short story of the sisters Mary and Ellen, the later of which is an ill-natured girl. When their mother brings home presents to the sisters as rewards for their good behavior, Ellen feels so guilty she eventually confesses. The rest of the story is Ellen trying to be good to earn back her present. After this short story there are three poems: 'Two Little Indian Girls', 'Poor Pincher', and 'Charles and Jane'.
