The life and military career of a certain William Lamborn, Sergt. Co. F, 117th Ill. Vol. Inf. (1838-1906) are described to detail in this G.A.R. memorial book. Founded in 1866, the G.A.R. was a national organization for veterans of the American Civil War. It was one of the country's first racially integrated social organizations; in addition to its fraternal activities, the G.A.R. advocated for many related causes, including suffrage for black veterans.
