From the Preface, "Southern by birth - Southern in sentiment, education and interest - my book is Southern, too - [...] to the free-born citizens of the South, then, I commit the work." Contemporary owner's name on the title page; lacking front endpaper, perhaps also front and rear flyleaves. Scattered foxing; binding somewhat cocked, with a few protruding signatures; moderate shelfwear to the binding, with surface loss to the joints and extremities of the spine. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. (Wright 2494). Fair binding.
