(B&W photo frontispiece, stage diagram) Comedy centering around issues of academic freedom at a Roman Catholic girls' college, where the Mother-General's defense of a young layman's teaching methods brings her into conflict with her Bishop. The original Broadway production ran for 152 performances between December 1949 and May 1950. According to the copyright page, the work was previously copyrighted under the title "Mother Hildebrand"; under that title it had been the recipient of an award from the Christophers, a Catholic organization, for its spotlighting of Christian principles. .
