[Photo Album]: "Blue Prints" Turn-of-the-Century Cyanotypes
- Hardcover
- Massachusetts, Chicago , 1904
Massachusetts, Chicago, 1904. Hardcover. Near Fine. Quarto measuring 10" x 11". Bradbound black cloth over stiff paper boards with a blue printed label on the front board. Contains 64 cyanotypes measuring between 1" x 1" and 4½" x 6½", with captions.
A photo album containing a family's cyanotypes taken in Chicago, Ohio, New York, and Massachusetts. The images are well-composed and dated between 1900 and 1904. Many of the photos are family portraits around a home in Chicago and a family farm with cute captions under a majority of them. One shows girls in front of a schoolhouse with the caption "first day of school Sept. 10, '02;" another reads "talking it over 1902" and features two women sitting on the lawn. One section is titled "Cross Country Walks" and shows women in the woods, by a creek, and posed on river rocks. These images include captions such as "say, you girls are getting your feet wet;" and "reflections" under a photo of a woman staring into the water. A young child named Hazel is seen throughout in her basinet, playing on a chicken farm, and playing by the sea. Towards the end of the album the photographs are from a trip to Chicago on a boat from the Chautauqua Pier in Ohio with views of the water and ship. Following this are "creek scenes" and group photographs of women in front of a family home.
A pleasing collection of cyanotypes documenting travel and nature scenes at the turn-of-the-20th Century.
