An aging widower arranges a marriage for his only daughter. Director Yasujiro Ozu's final film, a farewell to his mother, whom he had lived with and cared for his entire life, with the title drawn from a poem he wrote upon returning from her funeral. Ozu became ill shortly thereafter and died from cancer at age 60 in 1963.
