Greece, Amersterdam, 1928. Hardcover. Near Fine. Oblong folio. Measuring 15" x 11". Black cloth and leather over stiff paper boards. Contains 273 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 2½" x 3½" and 7" x 9", some with captions. Very good album with rubbing and edgewear with find photographs.

A wonderful photo album compiled by a wealthy couple in the late 1920s. The album opens with images from a wedding with photos of well-dressed guests, the bride and groom, and the wedding party. Following this the couple went on a world tour beginning with a visit to Spain where they are seen posed in traditional costume. They travel through Europe photographing the countryside, local people, and historic attractions. One page shows a reenactment of Greek gladiators performing in an ancient amphitheater. Another page features a bustling town with livestock, washer women, and children selling wares. The compilers are pictured by the sea, posed with boats behind them. They also go on a hunting trip with images of men with guns and dogs as well as a skiing trip. One section shows what appears to be a royal or military wedding with large, well-composed images depicting the bride and groom. Of note are photographs from track and field events featured throughout the album including the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. An aerial shot of a stadium is seen here as well as the opening ceremonies and parade, beginning with Greece. Action shots of high jumps, pole vaults, races, and hurtles. Additionally included are shots of the winter Olympic parade in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

A wonderful travel album documenting the travels of an upper class couple in the 1920s and athletic events including the winter and summer Olympics.
