Boston: C. Bingham & Co. (H. Bowen, printer), 1820. Very good.. Scarce Boston chapbook teaching chess to beginners. Erroneously dated 1805 in Shaw & Shoemaker, Bowen printed this booklet in Boston 1817-1821, according to BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AND CHESS IN EARLY AMERICA by Ralph Hagedorn. The publisher Caleb Bingham was a Dartmouth graduate who opened a school for girls in Boston and later became a bookseller between 1794 - 1817 (see Rosenbach 284-5 not listing this title). Quite scarce. 3.75'' x 2.5''. Early tan wrappers. 28 pages. Stamp on rear wrapper "J 19&20." Text block uniformly toned, else quite nice and intact.
