By Waldman, Emerson
New York/Toronto: Farrar & Rinehart, Inc.. Fair. (c.1938). First Edition. Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [a decent reading/reference copy only, solidly bound but with a big stain surrounding the base of the spine, and some fading to the spine; vintage bookseller's rubber stamp (Bertrand Smith Acres of Books, Long Beach, Calif.) on front pastedown]. Uncommon novel, "a selection of The Discoverers," about a struggling Russian-Jewish immigrant on New York's Lower East Side, and later in Mississippi, spanning the period 1893-1916. (Hanna 3652) Waldman published a sequel, "Broad is the Way," the following year; both books seem to have been largely overlooked by scholars of American immigrant literature. .
