By Philip Johnson
New York, 1956. Letters. Near Fine. 3 typed, signed letters from the renowned architect Philip Johnson --all from 1956-- to NYU Professor Dora Wiebenson. Each letter measures 8 1/2" x 11", is written on his business stationary ("Philip Johnson Associates") and each includes its accompanying original envelope. The March 1956 letter has good content (discussing the "Cite Industrielle", a design conference at Harvard, etc.), the other 2 letters are shorter and more perfunctory. The March 1956 letter shows a bit of light staining along its margins (not at all affecting the text), the other 2 letters clean as could be. The 3 envelopes, all with their original postmarks, show some wear along the edges and, in one case, pencil notes --in an unknown hand--at the back of the envelope. A nice cache of mid-career Philip Johnson ephemera, showing both enthusiasm and generosity.
