Lengthy poem composed following the author's interview with "an interesting young man at that time dangerously ill" who had been aboard a ship on the Gulf Stream when it was struck by lightning. "The events stated in the following lines are literally true. I have in my possession the crucifix, and the journal kept by the young man" (p. [3]).
