By Bowman, Anne
London: George Routledge and Sons, 1880. Later printing. Hardcover. Good. 406pp. Duodecimo [18.5 cm] Reddish brown cloth over boards, with pictorial stamping to the backstrip and front board (a boy reading a book), and embossed designs on the rear board. Illustrated frontispiece. The text block is sporadically cracked. The preliminary pages have two discreet ink stamps from a prior owner, and the front free endpaer and the front flyleaf are adhered along the inside margins. From the collection of Berkeley book collector and letter press printer, John Ruyle. Listed as #180 in "American Lost-Race Fiction: The Stuart Teitler Collection," a catalog produced in 2008 by Serendipity Books of Berkeley, California.

Regarding this very copy, the Serendipity catalog states, "Not a lost-race novel, per se, and certainly not in Teitler, but a companion to Bowman's lost-race novels that Teitler does identify, and from the Collection of John Ruyle. The first American edition was 1859; reprinted in 1865; 1866, etc. Nice copy. The nature of the design of the bicycle on the spine would suggest a date in the 1880s." Part of "Miss Bowman's Books for Juveniles" series.
