The Courtin' (Winslow Homer Illustrations)

By James Russell Lowell
Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1874. Decorative Cloth. Very Good +. Winslow Homer. The 1874 1st edition of this, one of only 2 books Winslow Homer ever illustrated cover-to-cover. In this case, his 7 heliotypes --reproduced from his own drawings-- beautifully complement James Russell Lowell's verse. A very solid copy to boot. Tight and VG+ to Near Fine in its chocolate-brown cloth, with very light rubbing along the gilt centerpiece. Internally, very clean, with no writing or markings to speak of, except for very occasional foxing. All edges gilt, the 7 heliotypes come with their original tissue-guards, which have protected the plates very well.
