New York: Philosophical Library. Very Good+ in Very Good dj. (c.1946). First Edition. Hardcover. [light shelfwear, lower front corner very slightly bumped, faint bookseller's rubber-stamp (Bertrand Smith Acres of Books) on front pastedown; jacket moderately edgeworn, with a few small tears and a bit of associated creasing at top of front panel]. "The erotic Odyssey of a beautiful woman unwilling to compromise with the men whom life has thrown at her, going from lover to lover until she finds the 'right one,' who combines the ideal lover of her dreams with a man of the real world." A late-career novel by this German Expressionist writer (1882-1961), who in 1933 fell afoul of the Nazis, who banned and burned his books; he fled the country, and after moving around Europe a bit ended up in the U.S. in 1940, where he remained for the next ten years before returning to Munich. (Appropriately, while in America he picked up a nice bit of movie money when M-G-M filmed his most famous novel, "Karl und Anna," in 1947 under the title DESIRE ME.) The translation credit notwithstanding, this book does not appear to have been published in Germany. .
