Edward G. Robinson's World of Art (With Wonderful Ephemera)

By Jane Robinson
New York: Harper & Row, 1975. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good +. A nice Association copy: WARMLY INSCRIBED BY BOTH EDWARD G. ROBINSON AND THE BOOK'S AUTHOR, HIS WIFE JANE ROBINSON, TO THEIR GRANDDAUGHTER on the front free endpaper. (Edward G. Robinson's inscription reads: "Don't believe everything they say about me--Love, Grandpa"). Also includes a terrific piece of ephemera, a vintage black-and-white photograph of 2 representatives of the Wildenstein Gallery admiring a large Tintorello painting and, with it, an envelope on which Edward G. Robinson has written in ink, referring to the photo: "The Polish Bastard at Wildenstein who got me into all this -- also the fake Tintorello". Both scalding and hysterical. A sharp copy to boot of the 1975 stated 1st edition. Tight and VG (light foxing along the panel edges) in a crisp, price-clipped, VG+ dustjacket, with very light soiling at the rear panel. Quarto, an unusual piece of Edward G.Robinson memorabilia and a glimpse into the not-always-smooth world of celebrity art collecting.
