Van Dyck became the leading court painter in England, best known for portraits of the aristocracy, most notably Charles I, his family and associates. He became the dominant influence on English portrait-painting for the next 150 years. This is Tome IX, of the publications of the Academy. Second volume of 190 black and white plates, some with more than one image per plate printed recto only: plus 350 engravings and watermarks. Concordance Table, Table of Plates and Alphabetical Table of Places and Names. Text in French, text mostly unopened, and text condition near fine. Plate volume covers nicked and repaired with archival tape.
