By John Gardner
New York: The New American Library, 1966. Very good/Very Good. New York: The New American Library, 1966. Stated First Printing. Octavo; [x], 241pp. Printed dust jacket with $4.95 price intact; book in brown faux-grain boards with black cloth spine and gilt lettering to spine. Jacket a bit edgeworn with a light dampstain over tail of spine. Front and back boards show tape abrasions where jacket was previously attached, with light matching marks of tape toning to free endpapers but no hints on jacket. Small waterspot at bottom corner of half title, not affecting adjacent pages. Sparse toned spotting, mostly in margins, with a few dog-eared pages throughout. Back free endpaper stiff from water exposure, with only peripheral discoloration and some toning and dampstaining along fore-edge of preceding page. Abrasive quality could suggest removal of a plate or pocket, but there are no other institutional marks to corroborate this. Binding is sound and pages unmarked.

Author's first novel, printed in a run of 2500 copies.
