Barbed wire was first invented in the late 1860s and became an indispensible tool for homesteaders in the settlement of the west. An early and large promotional piece for one of the better known manufacturers, whose wire was easily recognizable by the twisted double strand and 4-point barbs. Patented in 1877, the wire was produced in Johnstown, Pennsylvania but shipped all over the west. Unrecorded in OCLC.
