Washington City: Printed by R.C. Weightman, 1812. Very Good. First edition. Octavo. 4pp., printed self-wrappers. Two sheets neatly separated with light scattered foxing, very good. A petition by William and John G. Ladd, of Alexandria, to recover costs incurred when Shadrach Hathaway, “master of a vessel lying in the port of Alexandria, was robbed by a negro man of the sum of two hundred dollars ... to punish the theft, he caused the negro to be arrested and committed to jail for trial. That to secure the attention of Hathaway, as a witness, he entered into a recognizance in the sum of one hundred dollars, with the petitioners as sureties, conditioned for his appearance at court, to testify against the said negro. That the said Shadrach Hathaway sailed from Alexandria, and was afterwards captured by a French privateer and carried into Cuba, and the detention growing out of his capture ... prevented his appearance ... Hathaway has since departed this life ... and as the petitioners are entitled to relief, the following resolution is respectfully submitted.” Scarce. *OCLC* locates only three copies.
