Benny Fikus owns a failing clothing store and wishes to cash in on it by burning down his store and collecting the money from the fire insurance policy. He goes on vacation with his wife and puts his son in charge, and suffers a heart attack while away. His other son Ezra attempts to adopt an African American teenager to have him play on his basketball team so that he may keep his job as the unsuccessful high school basketball coach.
