A lovely edition, with an amusing gift inscription in French. 11'' x 8.25''. Original red cloth-backed boards with color pictorial paste-on. Color pictorial endpapers of the arrival of MOTHER GOOSE. Color pictorial frontispiece with 11 full-page color plates and numerous in-text black and white illustrations. [13] leaves, folded at fore-edges. Early gift inscription in French to first blank that translates to "To the craziest of all English babies / Buttercup." Binding with light edgewear, small spot of soil to spine; boards a touch bowed at outer edges. Leaves sharp and bright.
