[Tintype]: Well-dressed African-American Man

  • SIGNED Unbound
  • 1865
By
1865. Unbound. Near Fine/Near Fine. Tintype photograph. Measuring 2 ½" x 4". Corners evenly snipped to fit in an album, a little nominal scratching in the margins, else a clear, very near fine image. A prosperous and nattily attired gentleman of seeming middle age is pictured in a suit and frock coat with velvet or silk lapels, elaborate bow tie, beaver hat with a wide band, and holding a briar cane, sits and peers skeptically at the photographer. The subject, photographer, and location are all unidentified. By the subject's dress we approximate the date to be circa 1865.
