New York/Chicago: A.L. Burt Company. Poor in Poor dj. (c.1931). Reprint. Hardcover. [both the book and the jacket are in pretty rough shape, having gotten wet at some point: the book's covers and endpapers are stained, and the previous owner's name plus the date & place of purchase are written at the top of the half-title page; the jacket, meanwhile, has been rather crudely patched internally and externally (with tape and non-archival paper), including the filling-in of a large chip at the upper left corner of the front panel; with all these depredations (and more I haven't mentioned, such as some touching-up with black ink), this is offered as a reading/placeholder copy only]. Murder mystery set in an English country house, in which a blind war veteran discovers a bloody corpse when the lights are switched off during a masquerade game. (The murdered man turns out to have been a mystery writer, of all things.) .
