First published in 1767, Buller's treatise on trial practice in rural places is derived from a collection of trials by his uncle, Bathurst, who is sometimes listed as the author. The second edition is considerably enlarged with original material. A standard work for decades, it went though several reissues and seven editions, the last in 1817. Writing in the late 1840s, Marvin notes that it was "still useful because it contains some authorities not elsewhere to be met with.": Marvin, Legal Bibliography (1847) 158.
