This was the first title issued in the Notable Scottish Trials Series. Smith, a socialite, was tried before the High Court of Justiciary Edinburgh, 1857, for the murder of Pierre Emile L'Angelier and acquitted. Her trial was the basis for a play by Letty Lynton and Dishonered Lady, a movie starring Joan Crawford.
