New York: A.L. Burt Company. Very Good+ in Very Good dj. (c.1915). Reprint. Hardcover. [a good sound copy with light shelfwear, a few tiny dark spots on bottom edge of text block; the jacket ((corner-clipped at both corners of both flaps, possibly by design) shows light wear at edges and corners, a few tiny nicks and tears]. "A war story told mainly from the Russian side" (that would be the early days of World War I, of course). "The hero, an American reporter, falls in love at sight with a Russian girl whom he sees on the street. The romance moves on from that moment through battlefields, prisons and hospitals in a series of tumultuous experiences. Both barely escape being executed as spies." The author, a newspaperman and sometimes war correspondent since the 1890s, had served in the cavalry during the Spanish-American War, and at the time this book appeared had already established himself as a writer of mostly adventure fiction. .
