Broadside Promoting "The United Brothers, Chang-Eng", the "Original" Siamese Twins

New York, New York: J.M. Elliott, 1839. Very good to fine. Some light toning.. A fascinating printed poster documenting the touring show of the "original" Siamese Twins, Chang and Eng Bunker. The show was titled "The United Brothers, Chang-Eng". The brothers were born in Siam (now Thailand) in 1811, and popularized the term "Siamese Twins" via their popular performances for Western audiences. Measures (12.75" by 8") Typographical border, blank spaces for hours of admission, venue, etc. Includes large wood-engraved image of the brothers against an exoticized scenic background. Verso blank. This broadside was produced for shows toward the end of their career in 1839, after which they retired to America. They were forced to tour again after the Civil War, when their Confederate money had been rendered worthless, and their slaves freed. They were forced to permanently retire in 1870 after a stroke.
