New York: Henry Holt and Company. Very Good+ in Very Good+ dj. (c.1955). First Edition. Hardcover. (price-clipped) [nice clean copy, light wear to extremities, slight bumping to upper corners; the jacket has some very minor wear along the top edge and at the upper corners]. "The story of a man who found a woman whom he doubted, yet whom he could not easily resist. When a happily married man meets an excitingly attractive woman, he may do one of two things. In this novel duty is the excuse for choosing the wrong road, the way of danger." Sounds like approximately every other film noir ever written, so it's unsurprising that this author had screenplayed several good ones -- including LAURA (1944) and THE DARK CORNER (1946) -- as well as having written the novel that served as the basis for another, THE PITFALL (1948). (Which has to make you wonder if this started out as a treatment that nobody picked up the option on.) .
