A particularly rare Valentine Writer with hand-stenciled Cruikshank frontispiece printed in 1814. Provides sweet and amusing messages to send to your sweetheart, tailored to their profession. Includes messages for every trade from Actor, Fish-Monger, and Tallow-Chandler, to Auctioneer, Tailor, Pastry-Cook and Engraver. The entry for Bookseller is quite charming: "In vain I read what sages teach, Philosophy I cannot reach;- To read your charms is my delight, An index of your mind so bright; Consent to bind your fate with mine, And I am blest, sweet valentine" (pp. 20-1).
