Both a modern, Marxist re-imagining of the Christ story, and a poetic and allegorical depiction of Congolese independence leader Patrice Lumumba, the film was to debut at the Cannes Film Festival, but did not screen due to the festival being canceled in support of the May 1968 Paris uprising.
