Russian-born French artist Erté (1892-1990) had a highly influential and lengthy career working in art, fashion, jewelry, and set design. He is widely considered as the "father of Art Deco," and is recognized as one of the most influential artists of the 1920s. He designed many covers for Harper's Bazaar magazine, in addition to contributing numerous illustrations for Cosmopolitan and Vogue. His works are held in the collections of world renowned museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
