An interesting book featuring many descriptions of Baltimore businesses, industries, schools, museums, hospitals, and more from the 1870's. There are sections on oyster, fruit, and vegetable packing; guano and fertilizers; glassware; paperbags; paintings and sculpture; sugar refineries; and much, much more. An appendix of important buildings and institutions is also included. Interspersed with the text are many illustrations and advertisements.
Bound in original blue cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Minor wear to spine ends, corners, and edges of boards. Crack to interior rear hinge. A few minor splits to interior binding. The interior is clean and bright with slight browning to margins. A leaf has been pressed and laid-in to interior. Full edges gilt. Includes three fold-outs: a map of Baltimore Ohio Railroad with an illustration of the Locust Point Terminus on the verso, a map of Peabody Heights (now Charles Village), and a large map of Baltimore, which is torn. An attractive book despite noted condition issues. Both volumes bound together with continuous pagination of 874 pages. The 1873 volume ends on page 352. BALT/070722.
