Each plate designed and engraved with illustrations on copper by Kurt Roesch, whose signature also appears on the colophon page. "Dedication The Sonnets To Orpheus Written As A Monument For Vera Ouckama Knoop Chateau De Muzot February 1922." Since his work was translated in the 1930s, Rilke has never lost his significance for English-speaking poets. Text in German and English. A German born American painter Roesch taught at Sarah Lawrence College from 1934 to 1972. One image we present has a Star of David bottom margin.
