Kray was the Academy of American Poets’ first executive director. Under her leadership the Academy launched a groundbreaking reading series at the Guggenheim Museum, the first national touring circuits for poets, the first Poets-in-the-Schools program, the Walt Whitman Award, and cofounded Poets House with Stanley Kunitz.
