Akron, Ohio / Chicago / New York: The Saalfield Publishing Company, 1904. Very good.. Early 20th-century cloth alphabet book in verse, with images and rhymes associated with affluent families of the period. This line of "Saalfield's Muslin Books" were meant for heavy use by children: "They may be washed and colors will not run, A child can chew them and have lots of fun." "A is for Automobile, so shiny and bright"; "D is for Dandy, a great St. Bernard"; "H is for Hammock, out in the shade, With our darling in it, swung by the maid." 8.75'' x 7.75''. Original linen pictorial wrappers. Illustrated with large color images block letters and rhyming phrases on all leaves. [6] pages, printed one side only, folded at fore-edge and bound at gutter. Some fraying and spots of soil. Binding firm.
