They supported the King's keen desire to unite the kingdoms of England and Scotland, a goal finally realized in 1706 and 1707 with the Acts of Union under Queen Anne. Published during the Bishops' Wars, a rebellion in Scotland over religious authority, this work was probably issued to promote the rights of King Charles I.
