With Weston's embossed stamp in lower left: "Edward Henry Weston / Tropico, Calif.". 6-1/2 x 4-12 inches. Portrait of Maud Allan in diaphanous gown posed in front of a century plant. Measures 4½" x 6½". Weston's embossed stamp in lower left: "Edward Henry Weston / Tropico, Calif." Slightest solarization at the extremities, but a fine and deep, rich image. Inscribed in the lower left "To Witter Bynner from Maud Allan." The inscription is on a dark portion of the image and is readable, but not readily apparent unless examined closely. A portrait image from the early part of his career, a few years after Weston's family moved to Tropico (now part of Glendale). Maud Allan, a Canadian dancer, was a well-known figure in Bohemian circles, most famous for her Dance of the Seven Veils in the character of Salome, complete with a prosthetic head of John the Baptist.
